Winter is fast approaching and many of us are looking forward to the months ahead. This is a time of year that we often group together, catching up with friends and family throughout the festive season. We spend more time in our homes, as the weather turns harsher, with colder temperatures, rain, sleet, hail and snow. It’s not all too surprising, then, that many of us want to make our homes as comfortable as possible at this time of year. Creating a cozy atmosphere can help you to settle down, feel warm and comfortable, and really enjoy yourself within your space. Here are a few steps that you can take to achieve this!
Heating
The most important area to focus on when it comes to helping your home feel cozy in the upcoming months is to make sure that it feels warm. Sure, this may be easier said than done during a cost of living crisis where the price of energy has dramatically increased. But you can take steps to help with this. Have your boiler checked to make sure that it’s in good shape. Ensure that your home is well insulated with double glazing and roof insulation. You can invest in cushions and throws to preserve heat where you’re sitting or rugs to warm hardwood floors. You may even want to go above and beyond and consider different forms of underfloor heating.
Scent
Scent can play a big role in how any space feels. Scents can create memories, give you a pleasant smell to enjoy while you’re relaxing at home, or even evoke sentiments of certain occasions or times of year. Think how many christmas scented candles there are – even though christmas itself doesn’t actually have a “scent”. Consider investing in scented candles and a home diffuser machine to fill your space with smells you love. Whether that’s somethign neutral like clean laundry or linen, or something more festive, like cinnamon or mulled wine.
Lighting
Lighting also plays an important role in the cosiness of your home. While it’s important to have a good, bright light as the main light of your room, you won’t want to leave this on as the evening draws in. Instead, consider lamps that emit a warm glow. This can be much more comforting than harsh, bright lights. As Christmas comes around, you may also add in fairy lights and other decorative lights on your tree or around other areas of your home. Dimmer options are ideal too, as these allow you to hold more control over the lighting in your space. If you want a dim, warming light, you could also consider candles. Just make sure to be extra careful when it comes to fire safety when using these. If you have kids or pets, flameless candles with a faux flame tend to be a much safer and preferable option.
Hopefully, some of the information above should help you to create a truly cozy atmosphere in your home!
