Killer Mike has released a new single titled “Talk’n That Shit!,” along with a music video directed by Seck. After an opening voiceover cameo by Jamie Foxx, the visual establishes the ways in which Killer Mike is a community pillar. It also spotlights a number of organizations about which he cares: PAW Kids, Bass Reeves Gun Club, Next Level Boys Academy, Youth Build, and New Georgia Project. Check it out below.
“The song is self explanatory. With the video, I wanted show the freedom and beauty in being able to turn up in spite of all the fuck-shit,” the rapper explained in a statement. “That upsets the bourgeoisie even more—in spite of all your criticisms, we’re gonna live free and stay lit.”
“Talk’n That Shit!” is the second single Killer Mike has shared this year, following the Young Thug–featuring “Run.” Mike went on to perform the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Both new songs mark his return as a solo artist since dropping the album R.A.P. Music in 2012.
Killer Mike and El-P just wrapped a tour in support of their 2020 Run the Jewels album RTJ4, a stint opening for Rage Against the Machine on their long-delayed reunion tour. The duo also stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform their song “A Few Words for the Firing Squad.”
Earlier this year, Killer Mike joined Meek Mill, E-40, and more at a virtual signing ceremony for California’s new statewide law restricting the use of rap lyrics in criminal prosecutions. He also made a surprise cameo on the fourth and final season of Ozark.
