Bruce Springsteen appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night (November 14) to perform his cover of Frank Wilson’s “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do).” He also stuck around for an interview, during which he talked about his new album Only the Strong Survive, the correct lyrics to the often misheard “Thunder Road,” and potentially attending Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour. Watch it all happen below.
Only the Strong Survive is a collection of soul music covers by a wide-ranging list of artists, including the Commodores’ “Nightshift,” Ben E. King’s “Don’t Play That Song (You Lied),” and transgender pioneer Jackie Shane’s “Any Other Way.” When explaining why he chose to cover soul songs in particular, Springsteen said, “My goal is for the modern audience to experience its beauty and joy, just as I have since I first heard it.”
Only the Strong Survive follows Bruce Springsteen’s 2020 album Letter to You. It’s also the musician’s first collection of covers since April 2006’s We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.
Starting on February 1, 2023, Springsteen will embark on a world tour with the E Street Band in support of his new albums. The lengthy run will mark his first tour in six years. Fans have spoken out against Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” for the concerts, which listed tickets at prices upwards of $5,000, but Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau defended the tour’s ticket pricing model in a statement.
