The bathroom is one of those spaces that many of us covet above all others. It is a space where you can give total privacy from the rest of the family, and spend time relaxing and really focusing on your self-care. We have a ranch home and I find myself googling, “how to make a small bathroom feel bigger’ all the time, especially when five of us are getting ready for bed at night.
When you have a small bathroom, this space in your home can feel distinctly less decadent. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are lots of simple things you can do to make small bathroom feel bigger, as you will see below.
Keep it light
If you want your little bathroom to feel much bigger, then you should steer clear of dark colors and opt for crisp white tiles, fixtures, and fittings where possible There’s no denying that dramatic dar bathrooms look great, but when you don’t have much square footage to play with lighter is always going to be better.
Go for glass
When it comes to your shower screen, glass shower doors are probably the best solution as they are completely opaque, which means the light will be able to shine through, and there won’t be a big block of color making the room feel more closed in than it really is. If you don’t have shower doors, then using a shower curtain or screen that is opaque is a good alternative.
Or take it off
Alternatively, you could do away with your shower doors or curtains completely to really open the space up, but just be mindful this could lead to more water getting all over the place if you aren’t a careful showerer.
Make it a mirror
If you can mirror the entirety of at least one wall in your bathroom, then this will do more than almost anything else to make it feel bigger. Mirrors always give the illusion of space in any room because healthy reflect the space back on itself. Along with the light, to make it feel like the room goes on and on. So, having a full wall mirrored will definitely open things up for you.
Use small tiles
Using smaller bathroom tiles is a good way to give the illusion of spaciousness, and the effect is certainly multiplied if you use the same tiles for the floor right up to the ceiling, so consider having a bathroom that is completely tiled, except from the mirrored wall, of course, if you choose to have one.
Let there be light
Your bathroom will always feel bigger if there is lots of light, so install spotlights in the ceiling and have plenty of candles around the bath if you want to relax in the luxuriousness of the spade and feel like you do have lots of space to luxuriate in.
Ditch the blinds
Get rid of window treatments and let the natural light shine in too. This will help the place to feel far less claustrophobic.
As you can see, no matter how compact your bathroom may be, you can always make it feel much more spacious, so what are you waiting for?
