At only 20 years of age, Ari Abdul has already crafted her one-of-a-kind genre that blends dark elements of alternative and pop. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, it did not take long for Abdul to develop a strong passion for music. Heavily influenced by her family, Abdul’s mom loved Latin music and her father showed her classic rock. From her brothers, Abdul got into hip-hop and metal, starting to learn the electric guitar when she was 14.
Encouraged by her mom to share her gifts with the world, Abdul launched her project in July 2021. Music enthusiasts quickly recognized her as a global talent, with Abdul’s debut single “BABYDOLL” and its sped-up version gaining over 83M collective streams and 400M TikTok views. Now Abdul has returned to shock her fans, releasing her debut EP, “Fallen Angel”.
Sharing her perspective on “Fallen Angel”, Abdul says, “you have like these nice, lovely, innocent-sounding songs. And by the end of the EP, the songs get really distorted and heavier, and the lyrics get darker. Maybe there’ll be an emotion or a little something that happens in my life in a song, but the EP is completely storytelling. We keep pretty melodies, but still have production and lyrics that completely contradict those pretty melodies.”
“Fallen Angel” is a complex but eye-opening project that showcases the creative genius and alluring voice of Abdul. Opening with “BABYDOLL”, the compilation feature five other tracks that are just as mesmerizing. The deep mysterious pop instrumentals are perfectly balanced with warm heavenly vocals. Throughout “Fallen Angel” each song has something special to contribute, adding a monumental impact to Abdul’s journey as an artist.
