Another contestant is joining the booming all-electric pickup truck market as on October 20, GMC announced the opening of pre-orders for the 2024 Sierra EV. The Sierra EV will be this General Motors brand’s second battery-powered pickup following the 2020 premiere of the GMC HUMMER EV.
The first models available to consumers will be the “Denali Edition 1,” making it the flagship of the line. Arriving for model-year 2025 will be off-road-themed AT4 and Elevation trims. While the company was mum on other versions, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more mainstream SLE and/or SLT grades join the roster, perhaps for 2026.

GM says the Sierra EV’s motors can generate 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in its maximum power mode. Maximum range is projected to be 400 miles. The truck will support up to 800-Volt DC Fast Charging with maximum input of 350 kW, which would allow for up to 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. Like the rival Ford F-150 Lightning, Sierra EV will be able to act like a large generator with up to 10.2 kW available.
Its traditional pickup capabilities will include a maximum payload capacity of 1,300 pounds and up to 9,500 pounds of towing capacity. The bed will be 5-foot, 11-inches and include a MultiPro Midgate, which when open, creates up to 9 feet of additional storage capacity between the bed and tailgate. Also standard on the Edition 1 will be GMC’s MultiPro Tailgate, which can be set in four different configurations to ease loading of bulky cargo or access to the bed. Additional cargo capacity will be available courtesy of a front trunk.
The cabin will be the usual GMC Denali fare with appropriately high-end materials including genuine wood, aluminum, and stainless steel trim. The infotainment screen measures a massive 16.8 inches diagonally and is in a portrait orientation – the first for a GMC vehicle. Drivers will have a choice of five drive modes with specific steering, suspension, propulsion, sound and power settings. It will also feature 4-wheel steering to decrease the vehicle’s turning radius and the brand’s unique “CrabWalk” that turns the rear wheels at the same speed and angle as the fronts, allowing the truck to move diagonally. Naturally, GM’s excellent SuperCruise autonomous driving capability is standard.
The 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Edition 1 carries a list price of $107,000 plus destination fee. Other trim levels are expected to start closer to $50,000.

CG Says:
With sky-high demand for electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, it was only a matter of time before GMC got in on the action. With its more conventional styling, the Sierra EV should prove to be the more popular option compared to the HUMMER EV that will be sold in the same showroom. There is the expected early adopter tax, but we’re more interested in how GMC will package the $50,000 base model due to be released after the launch versions sell out.
